LESSON 1: THE GREAT DEPRESSION

We will explain the causes of the Great Depression, & we will describe its effects on ordinary Americans.
  • This means we will list the causes of the Great Depression, and we can explain how each impacted the health of the American economy.
  • It also means we will describe how the Great Depression affected the lives of ordinary Americans.

LESSON 2: THE NEW DEAL

We will describe the government's response to the Great Depression, & we will evaluate its effects on the nation.
  • This means we will compare and contrast Hoover and Roosevelt’s response to the Great Depression.
  • It also means that we will analyze the ways in which the size and power of the U.S. government changed during this period.

LESSON 3: WORLD WAR LOOMS

We will summarize the origins of World War II, & we can assess the American response to the growing international crisis from 1935-1941.
  • This means we will identify the events that led to the start of World War II in 1939.
  • It also means that we will evaluate the United States’ reaction to each event.

LESSON 4: AMERICA AT WAR

We will analyze the military strategies the United States & its allies pursued during World War II.
  • This means we will assess the battle strategies of the U.S. in both the Pacific and European Theaters and determine how each led to victory for the Allied Powers.
  • It also means we will analyze Truman’s decision to use the atomic bomb against Japan in order to end the war.
